Preparing for an Assessment

What can you expect before, during, and after an assessment at hrmforce? If you still have questions after reading this page, feel free to contact one of our advisors or use the chat feature on the website. Would you like to practice a bit before taking the assessment? We’ve developed a special practice assessment so you can get a feel for how it works and be perfectly prepared. Good luck! TAKE THE PRACTICE ASSESSMENTAfter completing an assessment, you’ll gain insight into your talents, what motivates you in your work, and where your potential for growth lies. An assessment provides you with a nuanced understanding of your qualities. Assessments can consist of online tests and questionnaires. An assessment provides greater certainty about a candidate’s qualities and development potential through a nuanced understanding. In this way, clients receive a clear and comprehensive description of the participant. Assessments can be used in various phases and departments within organizations, including for selection, onboarding, and career advancement. Hrmforce offers various types of assessments. For example, you can turn to us for selection, development, and career assessments, as well as for team assessments or group analyses that provide insight into a team’s strengths and areas for development. The advantage of an online assessment is that it can be taken virtually anytime and anywhere. Assessments can be completed either at home or on-site, and this can be customized according to the client’s preferences. First, the candidate receives an email with an invitation to take the assessment. This email contains both practical information and personal login credentials. It also includes a link that directs you to a secure online environment where you can complete the assessment. If a client prefers that you take the assessment in a supervised environment, they can suggest a location within their organization. You can practice for assessments in advance-in fact, this is highly recommended. By taking practice tests beforehand, you’ll gain a clearer understanding of the assessments you’ll need to complete. You’ll also learn to manage time pressure and know what kinds of questions to expect. This will allow you to start the actual assessment better prepared and more relaxed. Here you’ll find a practice test for the aptitude test. First and foremost, it’s important that you understand the purpose of the assessment and know what it covers. For many assessments, it’s possible to practice in advance or to read up on the material. Next, it’s important that you’re well-rested and can take the assessment in a quiet environment where you won’t be disturbed by (external) factors. Cognitive ability tests fall under the category of intelligence tests and are the most effective predictors of success in the workplace. These tests often consist of analytical insight (number sequences, figure sequences), logical reasoning, spatial insight, and mathematical and/or linguistic abilities. A cognitive ability test, also known as an “Ability Analysis assessment,” measures how quickly a person can understand problems, form an opinion, and/or learn new things.A personality questionnaire examines the candidate’s personality. There are no right or wrong answers in this type of assessment. The test is based on the five key personality factors that influence behavior in work situations: Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness. Please use a recent browser. Internet Explorer 9 or earlier is no longer supported by Microsoft, and there is therefore no guarantee that these browsers are compatible with the assessments. The assessments can also be taken on Mac computers, laptops, and the Safari web browser. While the assessments and tests can generally be taken on most tablets, this cannot be reliable. Due to the wide variety of tablets available, it is impossible to say with certainty whether the assessments and tests will work on every model. We therefore recommend taking assessments or tests on a desktop computer or a laptop-this is certainly possible. Just make sure you have a stable internet connection. If you’ve been invited to an assessment day, you’re expected to arrive at the specified location in the morning. Throughout the day, you’ll undergo various assessments, interviews, and (simulated) conversations. The purpose of this full day is to gain a clear picture of the candidate in terms of development, ambition, motivations, and aspirations. The duration of the assessment varies and can range from 4 to 8 hours. You will always receive information about the length of the day before it begins. The exact schedule for the day depends on the client’s preferences and will always be communicated in advance. The time required may vary by assessment. At the start of each assessment, you will always be informed of its duration. Assessments you can take at home last no longer than an hour and a half. To prepare for an assessment interview, it’s especially important that you know who you are and how to demonstrate this. Required competencies: provide concrete examples that show you possess these competencies. Make sure you have a clear overview of your ambitions and motivation. Be honest about your strengths and weaknesses. If applicable, you can discuss the common thread running through your career and your professional development. It is recommended that you practice for an assessment interview in advance. This varies by interview. In a selection assessment, the focus is (primarily) on job-related competencies. Ambition and motivation are also discussed, and you’ll be asked about your strengths and weaknesses. In development assessments, the focus is (primarily) on career opportunities and development potential. Here, options within the client’s organization are explored. Ambition, motivation, and career goals are also discussed. In assessments focused on career development, the emphasis is (primarily) on motivation and driving factors. Linked to the candidate’s ambitions, the assessment explores a suitable next step, which may be either within or outside the current organization.During a practical simulation, a real-life situation is reenacted. In this simulation, your conversation partner is usually an actor who plays his or her role realistically. By simulating a real-life situation, it is possible to observe how someone reacts in a specific (work) situation. The results of the practical simulation are combined with the results from the interview assessment, the personality questionnaires, and any other assessments. During a practical simulation, the candidate’s social and communication skills are evaluated. The candidate’s behavior and conversation techniques are observed. It is recommended that you dress as you would for your future job or as you do for your current job. It is important that the dress code fits the environment where you will be working or for which you are taking the assessments.
  1. Be yourself. This is the easiest approach and provides the best insights for both you and the manager/assessor.
  2. Make sure you’re well-rested and arrive on time. Plan ahead accordingly.
  3. Check in advance where you’re expected to go and the best way to get there. Leave early and allow for possible traffic jams or delays. If you factor in potential delays, you’ll feel more at ease.
  4. Familiarize yourself in advance with the assessments you’ll need to complete and take any relevant practice tests.
  5. Never complete assessments at the last minute. This ensures you’ll be able to finish them on time. If something does go wrong, you’ll still have enough time to resolve the issue and complete the assessment.
  6. Always take assessments in a quiet environment where you won’t be disturbed.
  7. Assessments provide a clear picture of the candidate. Answer the questions honestly and use the results to get to know yourself even better.
  8. If you’ve been invited to an assessment day, be sure to prepare thoroughly for the following:
    1. Know your own strengths and weaknesses and be able to describe them using examples.
    2. Identify your areas for development.
    3. Make sure you can clearly articulate your ambition and motivation.
