Translates demand forecasts into purchasing, production and inventory plans and flags gaps between demand and supply before they cause shortages or surplus stock.
The supply chain planner works with data from multiple systems and must build a reliable forecast from it. The distinction from a logistics planner lies in the more strategic, forward-looking nature of demand planning rather than operational execution. Selection often fails on candidates who build models well but cannot explain the assumptions behind them to commercial colleagues.
