Backend Developer

Builds and maintains the server side of applications, exposes data through interfaces and safeguards reliable and secure processing.

The backend developer builds the logic, the data storage and the interfaces that other systems and the frontend rely on. Unlike the frontend developer, this role is judged on data consistency, response times and system behaviour under load. Selection often centres on the stack in use, while the real differentiator is data modelling and the ability to foresee what a change to an interface causes elsewhere in the chain.
