Teaching Assistant

Also known as: Classroom Assistant · Instructional Aide

Supports the class teacher with organisation, small groups and individual guidance in the classroom, without delivering the curriculum independently.

The teaching assistant works under the class teacher's responsibility and takes over practical and supportive tasks. Unlike the teacher, this role carries no final responsibility for the curriculum or pupil assessment. Selection often looks at affinity with children, while the ability to switch independently between support tasks without constant instruction from the teacher is often overlooked.
