Primary School Teacher

Also known as: Elementary School Teacher · Primary Teacher · Classroom Teacher

Teaches a fixed class of children in primary school as their classroom teacher and guides their cognitive and social-emotional development.

As the class teacher, the primary school teacher carries full responsibility for one group of pupils, from maths and language to social development. Unlike a subject teacher in secondary education, the role combines broad subject knowledge with continuous observation of individual pupils. Selection often looks at diplomas and placement experience, while the ability to sustain classroom management through a whole day of shifting group dynamics is rarely tested separately.
