Claims Handler
Also known as: Insurance claims adjuster
Assesses and processes claims, determines coverage and payout and liaises with policyholders and assessors about this.
The claims handler often works with emotionally charged files where the customer has just experienced a loss. The distinction from an insurance administration employee lies in the assessing nature of the work, where each file requires its own judgement. Selection often fails on candidates who know policy conditions well but communicate too little empathetically toward a customer who has just suffered a loss.
