Breakdown Technician

Responds to unforeseen equipment or installation breakdowns and diagnoses the fault under time pressure to limit downtime.

The breakdown technician is called out for unexpected failures and must diagnose the fault quickly, often alone and outside regular hours. Unlike a maintenance mechanic, who works to a plan, this role centres on responding to the unforeseen. Selection often tests technical breadth, while the ability to reach a solid diagnosis under time pressure, often alone, is rarely tested.
