Information Manager

Also known as: Information Management Advisor · IT Business Partner

Connects the organisation's information needs with the IT landscape, draws up plans and steers vendors and projects on results.

The information manager decides with management what information provision is needed and translates that into multi year plans, projects and vendor agreements. Unlike the functional application manager, this role works at portfolio level, and unlike the architect the issue is priority, money and governance rather than technical design. Selection looks for an IT background, while the bottleneck is standing in the line organisation: without mandate and without the ability to make departments choose, an information plan becomes a wish list next to which every department keeps buying its own solution.
