Security Analyst

Investigates alerts and logging for signs of attack, determines their severity and initiates the follow up steps during incidents.
The security analyst works in the monitoring chain and judges the stream of alerts coming out of detection systems. Unlike the security engineer, this role does not build the detection, and unlike the security officer it works at incident level rather than on policy. Selection asks mainly about tool experience, while the role depends on an investigative attitude and composure: most alerts are noise, and deciding under time pressure which one is real requires source evaluation and case building rather than routine.
