Information Security Officer

Also known as: Security Officer · Information Security Advisor

Drafts security policy and control frameworks, tests compliance across the organisation and advises management on residual risk.

The security officer works at policy and assurance level and makes sure an organisation demonstrably works to its security standards. Unlike the security engineer, this role implements no technical controls, and unlike the security analyst it does not track incidents in the systems. Selection stalls on demanding technical depth, while the work depends on holding a position: an officer who does not contradict the board about a risk nobody wants to own mainly produces documents without consequence.
