Infrastructure Architect

Also known as: IT Infrastructure Architect · Technical Infrastructure Architect

Designs the setup of networks, servers and workplaces for the longer term and substantiates choices on capacity, continuity and cost.

The infrastructure architect determines the build up of the technical landscape, including failover, capacity and the transition from existing to new facilities. Unlike the administrator, this role works not on today's environment but on the one for coming years, and unlike the cloud architect the scope also covers own data centres, network and workplace. Selection targets technical breadth, while the bottleneck is the business case: a design without substantiated cost and a migration path does not survive decision making and stays on the shelf.
