IT Service Desk Agent
Also known as: Help Desk Technician · IT Support Specialist · Service Desk Analyst
Receives user reports, resolves common IT problems and escalates more complex disruptions to specialists in good time.
The service desk agent is the first contact between user and IT organisation and records, assesses and either resolves or routes every report. Unlike the system administrator, this role has limited rights and works within fixed procedures and resolution times. Selection weighs technical knowledge too heavily, while attrition comes from combining client focus with pace: someone must handle an irritated user politely, leave a clear record and dare to escalate when they cannot solve it themselves.
