Manual Machinist

Also known as: Turner Miller · Conventional Machinist

Machines metal parts on conventional lathes and milling machines, often for small batches and custom work with no CNC programme.

The manual machinist machines parts by hand on conventional machines, often for one-off or small batches where a CNC programme would not pay off. Unlike the CNC machinist, this role centres on manual precision rather than programming. Selection often tests experience with conventional machines, while the ability to change over quickly for small batches without measurement errors is rarely tested.
